Ugly Betty's America Ferrera is busy reassuring family and friends that she isn't engaged.
The new TV star is now coming to terms with her love life being tabloid fodder.
Recent reports claimed that the actress' boyfriend, Ryan Piers Williams, had popped the question on the quiet and the couple were secretly planning their nuptials.
However, it's the first America had heard of it.
It was also the first her family and friends had heard of it, too.
America told W magazine: "His mom called me and my sisters were calling me, and I was like, 'Are you kidding? Did you not think I would tell you first?'
"Then I put out a statement that it wasn't true, and that became a whole news story. So now it's news when something doesn't happen?"
America met Piers at film school in California, where she agreed to be in one of his student films.
