But the Simpson camp have now piped up themselves.
And the verdict is...
That the wedding rumours are complete baloney.
Ashlee's rep has told Us magazine that that whisperings of their nuptials were "absolutely not true".
There had been reports that Pete had popped the question to Ash moments before Fall Out Boy's performance at Live Earth.
The chat was that it had all been hushed up because Ash feared the overexposure that plagued Nick Lachey and older sister Jessica's marriage.
However, we can set the record straight and say the reason for all the secrecy is that there had never been a proposal in the first place.
We'll put our hats back in the cupboard then.
