Pete's told Los Angeles-based radio station 98.7 that: "I was in the 'friend zone' with her for a good solid year. I spent a long time in the 'friend zone.'"

Well, they do say friendship is the best base for any relationship, don't they?

He went on: "I'd be calling her and following her around like a puppy dog."

And just look now, it's really paid off for the engaged pair.

Pete gushed: "The first time we really hung out she flashed me."

Yes ways, as Ashlee confirmed: "I lifted my dress over my head."

Pete also said: "I get a look (from her) every time I don't say fiancee."

Surely that's a look of love though, Pete?
