Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I AmArctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I AmYou know you've made it when the young pop stars want to copy your work  - and no one had heard of you a few months ago.

That's certainly the case for rock phenomenon the Arctic Monkeys.

They've just smashed the record for the fastest-selling debut album ever.

The Sheffield band's Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not - released just a week ago - has sold more than 360,000 copies.

Now the Sugababes are going ape over the band.

They plan to put I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor - which pushed the Sugas OFF the top spot last October - as the B-side on new single Red Dress.

The girls told The Sun: "We love it, even though it knocked us off no.1.

"When our bosses asked us to think of covers for the B-side we knew which song we would all love to do."

The Arctics have easily beaten the previous record held by Hear'Say's Popstars album, which sold 306,631 copies in March 2001.

A spokesman for HMV said: "We haven't seen anything quite like this since The Beatles."

The group had a no.1 last week, too, with When The Sun Goes Down.

But the song was knocked down to two on Sunday by Notorious BIG, Diddy and Nelly with Nasty Girl - denying them simultaneous number ones in both charts.

The fastest selling British album of all time is Oasis' third album, Be Here Now, which sold 655,000 copies in its week of release in 1997.
