Cynthia NixonCynthia NixonCynthia Nixon has opened up about some emotional news.

She's spoken for the first time about having breast cancer.

Cynthia battled with the illness in secret two years ago, in 2006.

She told ABC's Good Morning America: "I had a lumpectomy and then I had six-and-a-half weeks of radiation."

The Sex And The City star kept her condition secret, even scheduling her surgery on a Sunday, to avoid missing a performance of the Broadway show she was doing at the time.

Cynthia, who admitted she was "scared", added: "I didn't really want to make it public while I was going through it. I didn't want paparazzi at the hospital, that kind of thing."

It seems that she had her girlfriend of four years, Christine Marinoni, and her children, Samantha and Charles, to support her through it all.

She said: "My girlfriend was very scared.

"We made a big point of talking to my kids about it.

"I basically told them they found some cancer in my right breast."

We take our hats off to you Cynthia.
