Calm down, calm down 007... the new James Bond is going to be a Scouser.
Just 24 hours after reports that Pierce Brosnan was all set to step back into his Bond brogues, The Sun reports that Liverpudlian actor Daniel Craig is set to accept the coveted role.
The paper claims the 37-year-old Layer Cake star has been offered a three-film deal by producer Barbara Broccoli.
Craig, it appears, has beaten off competition from fellow British actor Clive Owen.
A spokesman for the star denied the report, but refused to comment further.
The next James Bond movie, Casino Royale, is being directed by Martin Campbell, who first took the helm on Goldeneye in 1995.
A source told the paper: "Everybody who works at Eon Productions, who make the Bond movies, has been told Daniel is the new 007.
"It is a big commitment for a minimum of ten years, but he has indicated he will do the job."
Other names connected with the 007 role - vacated by Pierce Brosnan - have included Eric Bana, Jude Law, Heath Ledger, Ewan McGregor, Dougray Scott and Hugh Jackman.
