Having won a Golden Globe earlier in the month, Jennifer Hudson was named best supporting actress again for her role in Dreamgirls. She thanked the Screen Actors Guild for "noticing little old me".

Surprising no one, Helen Mirren took the best actress gong for The Queen. But she admitted that when she first signed on to play HRH: "I saw those sensible shoes and tweed skirts laid out in a row, and I cried."
