EastEnder Gary Beadle has accused the soap of being "too racist".
He says show bosses were wrong to turn his character - bad boy Paul Trueman - into a small-time drug dealer.
Now the 38-year-old actor believes the time is right to quit the ailing soap. He stormed: "I hate the storyline, I am really not happy about it.
"It's so unimaginative, full of stereotypes - black people and drugs, blah, blah, blah. Any scenes involving drugs - you can rest assured, I hated filming them.
"I just knew Paul wouldn't do that... once they started changing my character so dramatically, I knew I made the right decision to leave."
Trueman leaves the show on Thursday, but the star says he would resurrect the character if scheming Janine Butcher - played by actress Charlie Brooks - returned.
He told the Mirror: "Charlie is my soft spot. The stuff between Paul and Janine was amazing and it was great to work with someone you fancy but know you can't have."
