Elton John & lover David FurnishElton John & David FurnishSir Elton John says his wedding to David Furnish, his partner of 12 years, makes for "a brilliant end to a brilliant year".

Here we take a look at what's planned and who the guests will be.

  • Sir Elton John and partner David Furnish tied the knot at the 17th-century Guildhall in Windsor, Berks, where Prince Charles married Camilla Parker Bowles.
  • They were married on 21 December 2005 by Clair Williams, who also married the royal couple.
  • It was a small, private ceremony - just Sir Elton, his mother and stepfather Sheila and Fred Farebrother, David and his parents, who will be the witnesses.
  • Sir Elton said: "Out of respect for their support, we want to keep it small. Not to make a ballyhoo of the ceremony."
  • The couple exchanged rare 31-carat yellow diamonds bought from Chopard, the Daily Mail reports.
  • Sharon Osbourne, Anastacia, Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek all put themselves forward for the role of bridesmaid - but there won't be any.
  • Sir Elton turned down a £5.8m offer by a US TV channel to broadcast the event, saying: "Our relationship isn't up for grabs."
  • There will be a fabulous reception bash. David said: "It's going to be a great, memorable evening. He's also planning a "big surprise" for the honeymoon.
  • Some 700 guests are expected for the reception, at their Old Windsor estate, including the Beckhams, Liz Hurley, Joan Collins, Hugh Grant, George Michael, Donatella Versace, Rod Stewart, Mick Jagger and even Elizabeth Taylor, if her health allows.
  • The do is expected to cost Sir Elton £1m.
  • Sir Elton has paid a further £10,000 to Thames Valley Police for up to 20 officers to police the event. A spokesman for the pop star said: ""Of course he is happy to pay. He doesn't want to inconvenience anybody."
  • Sir Elton asked guests to make a donation to his Aids foundation instead of giving presents.
  • David's in charge of the arrangements for the day - Elton's steered well clear.
  • Gary Barlow of Take That is supplying the entertainment.
