LordiLordiAll hail the new gods of rock, Finnish Eurovision Song Contest winners Lordi.

The band brought Finland its first ever Eurovision win - and also gave the competition its first heavy metal-type entry.

In costumes that would quite easily scare children, Lordi saw off runners-up Russia, represented by national hunk Dima Bilan, and Bosnia-Herzegovina's folk group, Hari Mata Hari.

Lordi's Hard Rock Hallelujah was just a little bit different to the other pop songs and ballads on show...

It completely overshadowed UK hope Daz Sampson's Teenage Life rap number - he was left in 19th position, with only 25 points.

Lordi frontman Mr Lordi, whose cape turned into bat wings on the night, said: "How cool is this? We're a rock band, and we just won a pop song contest."

He also hailed the result as "a victory for open-mindedness".

Finland will now host the 2007 competition.
