G miami vice johnson thomasThe extravagance of '80s American TV looks set to return in all its glory to the big screen with rumour of two big-budget remakes.

Smouldering Irish star Colin Farrell is being touted to play Sonny Crockett in the film version of cop series Miami Vice.

And Hollywood also looks set to bring back the don of US soaps - Dallas.

These two latest offerings from the vaults of America's television past follow on from news that The A-Team is also hitting the screen, with BA Baracus - Mr T - returning for a cameo slot.

Set in the overlapping seedy underworld and glamourous jet-set lives of Miami, Vice was a huge TV hit featuring Don Johnson as detective Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas as Ricardo Tubbs.

Jamie Foxx has already confirmed he is working alongside the show's original director, Michael Mann, for the remake.

And while Miami prepares for the big screen buzz, Dallas is doing likewise.

Legally Blonde director Robert Luketic is in talks with Regency Enterprises to relive the trials and tribulations of the Ewing clan at Southfork.

Larry Hagman's JR pulled the evil strings in the original CBS series with his nice but gullible brother Bobby, played by Patrick Duffy, trying to clean things up.

Charlie's Angels and Starsky and Hutch are among the remakes already to have made big returns.

The odds are still long, though, on Brit alternatives Bergerac and Juliet Bravo heading to Hollywood.
