Kate Ford was nearly left gasping for breath when her man asked her the big question.

What was it that caused her near respiratory problem?

The sparkly ring itself.

Newlywed Kate told Sunday magazine how she nearly choked on her engagement ring when her now hubby Jon Connerty proposed.

Kate, who tied the knot in mid-October in a low-key ceremony, said: 'I'm sipping on champagne, saying how much I appreciate the thought he'd put into our first proper Valentine's Day together.

"But he was watching my champagne glass so closely, I had to look down myself, thinking maybe there was a fly in it or something. And there was a 'something'."

Luckily Kate spotted the ring before a big sippage could lead to a sparkly swallowage.

She said: "Once I'd realised the ring was in there, that's when Jon said: 'Will you marry me?'

"It was the perfect proposal. It was like an out-of-body experience."

And luckily the ring stayed out-of-body too.
