Sin CitySin CityTim Evans gives you the latest on what's out this weekend at the flicks, including the rain-drenched comic book tales of Sin City, where Mickey Rourke steals the show, and the grotesques from Royston Vasey heading into metropolis in the long-anticipated League Of Gentlemen movie.

Read on to decide what you're going to watch at the movies.

SIN CITY
Certificate: 18
Running time: 124m

What's it about? Thugs, killers and whores people the murky depths of Basin City, the setting for three super-cool noir yarns lifted wholesale from the comic books of Frank Miller.

The League Of GentlemenThe League Of GentlemenWhat's good? Director Robert Rodriguez has digitally created a sublime vision of a rain-drenched underworld, with Mickey Rourke stealing the show as a tormented bruiser avenging the death of his hooker-come-broad.

What's bad? It can get more FHM than film noir as fetish-clad lovelies troop around the rooftops toting serious military hardware. Clive Owen's gumshoe-saving-the-red-light-district segment outstays its welcome.

Worth a look? Yeah. For the first time CGI flashiness is matched by a compelling narrative, and Quentin Tarantino gets a look-in as guest director.

THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN'S APOCALYPSE
Certificate: 15
Running time: 91m

What's it about? The twisted residents of Royston Vasey are forced to leave town to confront their media London-dwelling creators when they learn the end is nigh.

What's good? The quality of the acting lifts this above the usual comedy fare making the leap from small- to big-screen, and their dialogue throws up the odd gem, normally from pederast German teacher Herr Lipp.

What's bad? Plucked out of Royston Vasey, most of the characters lose their dynamic and look strangely lost and anonymous in an unforgiving metropolis.

Worth a look? Yes. Fans of the show will enjoy being reacquainted with the gallery of grotesques. Newcomers may struggle.

ADAM & PAUL
Certificate: 15
Running time: 86m

What's it about? Two hopeless heroin addicts drift around Dublin in search of an elusive fix. Er, that's about it.

What's good? A certain dark humour gradually makes itself apparent as the feckless pair cannonball from one dodgy situation to the next.

What's bad? Some scenes - particularly the mugging of a Downs Syndrome boy - will upset many...but at least the movie never flinches from the moral-stripping effect of drug addiction.

Worth a look? Maybe. It's not comfortable viewing but at least it's honest.
