Dumped: Leonardo DiCaprioLeonardo DiCaprioLeonardo DiCaprio could have changed the Titanic storyline and saved himself - if only David Hasselhoff hadn't interfered with his career.

The Hoff has revealed that Leo auditioned for a part as a lifeguard in Baywatch but that he wasn't quite what they wanted and so was shown the door.

Instead poor Leo had to accept the rejection... accept that he wasn't ever going to don those famous red shorts and run along the beach in slowmo, muscles rippling...

Instead he had to become a million dollar earning Hollywood A-lister with a string of successes behind him... and the irony isn't lost on Mr Hasselhoff as he told Hello magazine:

Baywatch babes - and DavidDavid Hasselhoff in Baywatch"I have the dubious distinction of not casting Leonardo in Baywatch. He was going to be one of the young lifeguards but we didn't hire him - I reminded him of that at the Golden Globes."

"Because of that he probably went on to become a huge movie star when he could have been in the Spongebob Squarepants movie with me."

If ever the saying, "Everything happens for a reason" had a place - it must be what Leo was thinking when he recently won the best actor award at the Golden Globes for The Aviator and was eventually able to put his Baywatch disappointment behind him.
