Just when they were close to sealing a deal...
The whole divorce talk has fallen apart.
The Evening Standard reports today that the eight-hour hearing held yesterday to settle divorce proceedings between Paul McCartney and Heather Mills ended in tears.
Metaphorically speaking, that is.
But there could be real tears too as Macca and his ex failed to reach a financial agreement despite lengthy negotiations.
A source told the paper: "It's finished. There are no more talks planned. The whole thing broke down without agreement."
According to the newspaper, Sir Paul offered Heather £50m, along with a confidentiality document ensuring that she would not talk about their marriage to the press at any point in the future.
Heather was apparently willing to accept £15 million less than the offing sum but refused to sign the gagging clause.
This chaotic end-off to the divorce talks opens up the possibility of a full public trial between the former lovebirds, which will send the already whopping legal costs through the roof.
"A trial date has been set for February next year and that is where we are heading," the source added.
