Madonna has spoken out for the first time since adopting 13-month-old David Banda from Malawi.
And she reveals she also wants to adopt a daughter.
The pop queen's new son arrived in the UK yesterday morning, amidst a barrage of controversy from charities and human rights groups who claim she bypassed the proper procedure for adopting a Malawian child.
However, undeterred by the protests, Madonna has reportedly told relatives about her desire to adopt a three-year-old girl from the same village as David.
"I saw this girl with the saddest smile. I told Guy, we must give this child a home too," the Daily Mirror reports her as saying.
In an official statement, Madonna, 48, explained her reasons for wanting to adopt David and insisted everything had been done legally and above board.
She said: "It was my wish to help one child escape a life of hardship, poverty and in many cases death, as well as to expand our family.
"We have gone about the adoption procedure according to the law like anyone else who adopts a child.
"Reports to the contrary are totally inaccurate. The procedure includes an 18-month evaluation period, after which time we hope to make this adoption permanent.
"This was not a decision or commitment my family or I take lightly."
The Mirror claims that 50 human rights groups have filed court documents asking for the adoption to be stopped.
