THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA

Running time: 140m

What's it about? Four nippers journey through the back of a wardrobe to join forces with noble lion Aslan and save the dreamworld of Narnia from the clutches of the White Witch.

What's good? Shrek director Andrew Adamson reins back on the God-bothering elements of the book and there's neat performances from a young first-time cast.

March Of The PenguinsWhat's bad? You could bang on about the Christian allegory of it all...but you'd sound like a bit of prat. Enjoy it for what it is - a superbly delivered children's tale.

Worth a look? Yes. Tilda Swinton gives an icily chilling performance as the White Witch and there's plenty of action to hold the attention.

MARCH OF THE PENGUINS

Certificate: U       Running time: 80m

What's it about? Documentary charting the fate of a "clan" of emperor penguins as they migrate to relatively predator-free ice fields over the course of one mating season.

ScorchedWhat's good? Despite the hardship and heartache - a lot of chicks and mums and dads don't make it - this is heart-warming stuff (which is what you need at minus 70 degrees plus wind chill).

What's bad? Not much. It's a well-made, appealing piece made all the more attractive by the emperors' strangely human behaviour.

Worth a look? It pretty much depends on whether you like penguins or not. And it's difficult to take a dislike to an animal that thrives in this sort of environment.

SCORCHED

Certificate: 12      Running time: 94m

What's it about? Unbeknownst to each other, three cashiers of a stuffy bank in a desert town secretly plan to plunder the tills and make off with the cash.

What's good? Nothing springs to mind. This so-called comedy is basically the repository for the failing careers of Woody Harrelson, Alicia Silverstone and John Cleese.

What's bad? Where to start, gentle reader. While the plot could have delivered some comic potential, the dialogue is about as funny as an NHS waiting list.

Worth a look? Only for connoisseurs of the truly dreadful. Do you really need the chance to witness Cleese's once illustrious comedy career turning to dust? Yes? Then this is for you.
