Nicole Richie's bonding with her own rentals.

Chatting to Access Hollywood, Nicole has apparently told how being preggers has brought her closer to her biological mother, and her dad Lionel Richie.

She said: "When I found out that I was pregnant, there was just something inside of me that felt a responsibility to mend any issues that I've had with my parents in the past, because, listen, I've put them through a lot."

She told them: "(The baby) is all he (Lionel Richie) talks about, actually."

But she joked that he doesn't want to be called grandpa.

Something Nic wasn't giving away was whether or not she and Joel Madden were expecting a baby boy or girl.

She said they're waiting to find out, but added: "I like to know everything.

"If he (Joel) wasn't at every doctor's appointment, I probably would have found out by now just behind his back and not told him."

Nic's chat is a two-part interview, in which she also reveals they're waiting to plan their wedding.

She said: "I got to hold something for when I get older.

"I can't have everything happen in one year."
