A leopard can change its spots.
And so too can Pete Doherty.
Chat has it that after a year dominated by court appearances and drug-related scandals, Pete is finally set to change his ways with a stint in the London marathon.
The 26-mile slog, which takes place next April, challenges even the fittest of folk but Pete's apparently determined to give it his all and has already started training for the big day with radio station boss Ralph Bernard.
An insider told the Daily Mirror: "Ralph knocked on Pete's door one day they went for a run.
"Despite being completely out of shape, Pete enjoyed it and he's been out again and again."
A friend added: "He (Pete) thinks that running is a great way to get back in shape - especially after piling on the pounds in rehab.
"He knows that people will be surprised by his efforts to be healthier but he really wants to turn over a new leaf."
So that's the marathon backchat - but what do Pete's people have to say on the topic?
"There is some truth to this - you never know what could happen," they said.
Do it, Pete, we'll cheer you on.
