The Brit actress, who is pregnant with her first baby, picked up the best supporting actress gong for her role in The Constant Gardener.

But Rachel wasn't the only Brit to succeed at the US awards.

London born Kiefer Sutherland took home the best actor in a drama series award for his role in Sky One's 24.

The biggest TV show of the night proved to be Desperate Housewives, as the cast scooped the best ensemble cast in a comedy series award.

Felicity HuffmanFelicity HuffmanAnd Felicity Huffman continued to be the toast of the town by winning best actress for her role in the show.

Lost also fared well, earning itself the best ensemble cast in a drama series award - and recognition for British actor Dominic Monaghan.

In the film categories, biopics proved popular with Reese Witherspoon winning best supporting actress for the Johnny Cash flick Walk The Line and Philip Seymour Hoffman bagging best actor for his role of author Truman Capote in Capote.

Crash took home the outstanding cast in a motion picture award, overtaking the favourite Brokeback Mountain.
