Roxanne Pallett has revealed how she was once in a violent relationship.
She’s been prompted to talk out about the experience since her Emmerdale character has been going through the same thing.
She said: "I was at the point where I couldn’t carry on.
"I was in an abusive relationship... it was really painful.
"It starts out as manipulation and control, which I’ve personally witnessed a long time ago."
She revealed her heartache on ITV1’s This Morning, and told how she had to watch the scenes she filmed for Emmerdale - where her character Jo Sugden gets hit by husband Andy - holding her mum’s hand.
Roxanne went on to say: "It’s really hard for me because it’s so close to home. It brings it all back to you and it’s devastating."
She hopes the Emmerdale storyline will help other victims of domestic violence.
