What's it about? The good 'ol boys from the lightweight 1970s American TV comedy get their Dodge Charger - The General Lee - back on the dirt tracks of Hazzard County for a big screen outing.

What's good? If you want mindless...this has got mindless in spades. If you like a big red car bouncing up and down country lanes...then it's got that too.

The Adventures Of Sharkboy And Lavagirl In 3-DWhat's bad? It's an irredeemably dull film struggling to get by on the chemistry between Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville. But there isn't any.

Worth a look? No. You'd be far better watching the Starsky & Hutch remake, which at least realised a comedy needs a couple of jokes.

THE ADVENTURES OF SHARKBOY AND LAVAGIRL IN 3-D

The Sisterhood Of The Travelling PantsWhat's it about? Downtrodden teen Cayden Boyd finds himself entering a fantasy world to help Sharkboy and Lavagirl help save Planet Drool from nasty Mr Electric.

What's good? Respect is due to director Robert Rodriguez for not playing the Hollywood game...but this time round the story is all over the place and the characters unmemorable.

What's bad? The 3-D effects grate quickly and render the atmosphere of a movie - which is too busy for its own good - dull and listless.

Worth a look? Maybe. With the Spy Kids series, Rodriguez showed he knows exactly what nippers want, though his judgement may have deserted him here.

THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELLING PANTS

Running time: 119m

What's it about? Four teenage girls who all miraculously fit snugly into a pair of thriftstore jeans exchange them on a weekly basis as a means of keeping touch when they head off on holiday.

What's good? The lead actresses are very good even if the plot device leaves a bit to be desired. You'll also get that holiday feeling thanks to gorgeous locations in Greece and Mexico.

What's bad? Being American, it inevitably gets a bit gooey for British tastes and the more sceptical may resent the manipulative yanking of heart-strings.

Worth a look? Yes. It's an assured - and often touching - chick flick light years ahead of one-dimensional dross such as The Perfect Man.
