A fan kisses TomA fan kisses TomGood Lord, Tom Cruise's wrists must ache... not from carrying his new bubba but from hours of waving.

It's not surprising that the Queen has perfected a very slight wave - she might want to give Mr Cruise a lesson or two in the non-vigorous, easy-on-the-wrist version.

Because after his first public outing since the birth of his daughter, Suri, the Hollywood star appears to have adopted an even keener hand waft.

It seems that every spare moment that his hands weren't busy shaking someone else's, or hugging his fans, or taking photos of himself and said fans, Tom was waving at the crowds who'd gathered in Rome to see him at the news conference for his new Mission: Impossible movie.

Tom CruiseTom waves... endlesslyJust a week after his tot was born, Tom - ever the professional - had jetted in to Europe to fulfil his commitments... with Katie's permission.

Tom revealed: "My own 'mission: impossible' was getting here. That was the mission impossible. Because it kept going back and forth.

"I wasn't going to come and then Kate said, you know, 'Go. Go.' So I'm here. And I'll be here for a few hours and then I'll get back on an airplane and go back home to Kate and Suri.

"My daughter has just been born and I want to be close to her. I thought about not coming to Rome, but Kate said go and have fun."

But will he show up in London's Leicester Square tonight for the UK premiere? Check back tomorrow...
