But Chloe Sevigny was once so desperate for money, she did it - and frankly, she should have been paid more.

We know what you're thinking... but you're wrong. For the American Psycho star actually shaved her head to sell her hair to a wigmaker.

She told New York Daily News: "I shaved my head when I was 17 years old. I had really long hair down to my waist. I sold it for $500 to a famous Broadway wigmaker.

"Caucasian hair is rare in the wig trade, and my hair was blonde and had never been dyed. I probably could have gotten a lot more money for it. I should have gotten $1,000."

But Chloe, 31, is now in a position to demand a healthy sum for such an extreme act.

She said: "If you have to shave your head (for a role), you get an extra pay cheque. But this time it would not be $500, it would be $500,000."

But regardless of money, Chloe, who currently stars as a polygamist's second wife in TV series Big Love, would not want to do it again, because she doesn't think women look good bald.

She adds: "My mother and my brother were so thrilled when I had my hair shaved off because my hair had always been so greasy, and I always wore it on my face. They said I never looked better than when I had a shaved head.

"I would never do a buzz cut again though. But I would like to have a Mia Farrow-style short look for a movie."
