However, there comes a point when we just can't turn a blind eye.

And when Avril Lavigne rocked up in NY to celebrate the release of her new album, we were horrified.

Rather than going for sophisticated elegance, she dived in the opposite direction...

With the most shocking and lurid eye make-up we've seen for a while.

And what a shame to hide her natural beauty under layers of colour and false lashes.
