We were all surprised to hear that Pauline Fowler will leave Albert Square this Christmas.
But now Wendy Richard has revealed the real reason behind her decision to leave EastEnders after 22 years.
Wendy told The Sun that it was Pauline's wedding to second husband Joe Macer that prompted her decision.
Explaining that she thought it disloyal to late husband, Arthur, she said: "I just couldn't believe that Pauline would remarry - anybody.
"And I just made myself ill fretting about it."
Wendy, 63, also spoke of her shock at the departure of James Alexandrou and Natalie Cassidy, who play her on-screen son and daughter-in-law.
She said: "It means the Fowlers will be breaking up and I think it's so sad that the Fowlers, who were the cornerstone of Albert Square from day one, will suddenly all be gone.
"I'm sorry to lose Pauline, I'm sorry to lose all my mates at work, but life has to go on. I'm not retiring, I'm just leaving EastEnders."
Wendy also had a few words to say about the soap's current storylines.
She added: "In EastEnders now I don't think there is enough about family.
"For God's sake, can't we have one proper family unit, where nobody is sleeping with someone else out of sight?"
