As catwalk queen Tyra Banks knows only too well.

So who discovered some harsh truths on America's Next Top Model this week?

Marvita Washington, a 23-year-old sales assistant from San Francisco, was the lady to go.

Marvita lost out against Whitney Thompson, as both faced Tyra's wrath for failing to appear fully "invested" in the comp.

Marvita faced added criticism in this week's task which saw the wannabe models undergo close-up studio shots, complete with multi-coloured paint smeared across their faces.

The judges commented that Marvita looked "sad" in her best snap, and even like "an orphan doing modelling" - words that led to her being given the catwalk chop soon after.

Marvita was philosophical in the wake of her model-type defeat, commenting:

"I overcame my fear of doing what I love doing most... my fear of looking pretty.

"I'm happy to have gotten this far. I'm going to carry on knocking on doors until one of them opens."
