In the TV gongs, Felicity Huffman was voted the funniest of those Desperate Housewives and Kiefer Sutherland won best actor for 24.

Surely a TV show would never get bigger than a star.

There's blackmail and conspiracy in star-studded thriller The Sentinal, starring Michael Douglas, Kiefer Sutherland, Kim Basinger and Eva Longoria, swimmers stranded off a party yacht in Adrift and Crank, starring Jason Statham as a poisoned hitman trying to stay alive.

It was a good night for British talent at this year's Emmys.

And an interesting night for fashion - with some great style on one manicured hand, yes you Cat Deeley, and some dodgy clobber on the other.

British miniseries Elizabeth I, 24 and the US version of The Office all basked in success at the 58th Annual Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.

Dame Helen Mirren took home a best actress gong, while Kiefer Sutherland proudly accepted the trophy for best actor in a drama, and Ricky Gervais won yet another award for his comedy smash The Office.

Kate Winslet isn't a name you'd normally associate with TV, but she's been nominated for a prestigious TV Emmy.

The nod is for a rare TV cameo in Ricky Gervais' Extras, where she mocked her own desperation for Oscars, and talked dirty with our Rick.
