The singing action took a back seat on Saturday night...
Because the X Factor buzz was all about Cheryl Cole's interesting choice of outfit.
The star judge had the public divided with her futuristic David Koma dress (left).
From the moment Cheryl hit the stage the dress in question caused controversy, after her fellow judge Simon Cowell smirked that she "better sit up".
When Cheryl asked why, he added: "You'll see why in a minute", in reference to the fact that she was giving him more of a side view than she had perhaps planned.
But even beyond this embarrassment, the 26-year-old's £1,500 black and silver number provoked uncertainty, with some fashion bloggers slamming its "dustbin lid" design.
However, Cheryl defended her daring look, created by the same up-and-coming designer behind Keisha Buchanan's unusual dress (right), which the former Sugababe wore to the London premiere of Michael Jackson's This Is It last week.
But whatever the opinion on her image, Mrs Cole was in celebration mode at the weekend, after her debut solo album 3 Words leap to the top of the album charts, while Fight For This Love held on to the topspot in the singles chart for the second week - making it a double whammy for the star.
