Dannii MinogueDannii MinogueX Factor judge Dannii Minogue has apologised to contestant Danyl Johnson.

Her apology follows an incident during Saturday's live show.

Dannii spoke about Danyl's performance of the hit song And I Am Telling You from Dreamgirls, after altering the lyrics so that he was singing about a woman, rather than a man.

She said: "If you're to believe everything you read in the papers,Danyl Johnson Danyl Johnson looked visibly upset on Saturday then you didn't need to change the gender references in the song."

The 37-year-old judge was slammed for her comments and quickly said sorry in a 180-word statement.

"I want to clear up exactly what happened on last night's X Factor show and post my sincere apologies to anyone who took offence.

"I made a comment about Danyl changing the lyrics of his song.

"It was meant to be a humorous moment about the fact he had an opportunity to have fun with his song. An openly bisexual guy singing a song that is lyrically a 'girl's song'.

"Danyl and I were joking about the very same thing in rehearsals on Friday, so it carried on to the show.

"I'd like to apologise to anyone that was offended by my comments, it was never my intention.

She added: "I spoke to Danyl straight after the show last night and he wasn't offended or upset by my comments, and knew exactly what I was saying."

Dannii reiterated her apology on Sunday's show and was backed by Simon Cowell, who said he may have "overreacted" to her original remarks.

Danyl himself took to Twitter and wrote: "I'm not ashamed. Dannii didn't mean any harm. We are all smiles. D."
