Elton John is being treated in hospital after being struck down with E.coli and an aggressive bout of influenza.
The 62-year-old singer was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in central London on Friday.
He has been forced to cancel a string of concert dates in Dublin, London and Liverpool, as well as forthcoming dates in the US with fellow star Billy Joel.
His condition deteriorated after he contracted E. coli, a bacterial infection, and the flu, at the same time.
A spokesperson for Elton told The Daily Mail: "He is recovering from a case of serious influenza with minor complications. We are confident he will be back on stage in the near future."
His partner David Furnish insisted yesterday: "He's OK, he's fine".
Promoters for Elton's european tour said they hoped to re-schedule cancelled dates for December.
