We're pleased to report that the silver-haired fox is definitely still breathing, despite reports that he'd met his maker on Monday.

Hoaxers spread online rumours that George had copped it, prompting a rash of frantic calls from worried friends and reporters to his publicist, Stan Rosenfield.

Stan was forced to issue a statement to TMZ.com saying that George is very much alive and in good health. Phew.

George isn't the only one to fall foul of the death hoax this week. Britney Spears, Natalie Portman and Rick Astley have all been rumoured to have gone to the big bouncy castle in the sky.

On Sunday hackers broke into Britney's Twitter account saying “Britney has passed today. It is a sad day for everyone. More news to come.”

It was rapidly taken down and fans were reassured that Britney was fine and having a lovely day at home.
