And the Universal Studios backlot was aflame for the 2008 MTV Movie Awards.

That's right, a huge fire has engulfed the backlot of the iconic Universal Studios in Hollywood, where Desperate Housewives and CSI are filmed, causing millions of pounds worth of damage.
 
We were asleep at our LA Showbiz Shed home early Sunday morning when we were awoken by noise of helicopters above.

We were unsure of what it was and, as helicopter noises are a common occurrence in LA didn’t take notice at first, but as they became persistent we soon learnt that there was a massive fire ablaze at the studios which is about a mile away from where we are.
 
The fire apparently started on a sound stage, and three blocks of movie facades were destroyed. Sets of New York City and New England were among the structures that burnt down.
 
The blaze apparently started at 4.45am on the 230 acre lot, after an explosion was heard early on.
 
Nobody is believed to have been harmed.
