The actor blew his fuse while being followed by photographers in New York.

According to TMZ, Hugh became irate by the crowd of paparazzi surrounding him and his friends, as they headed home after a night out.

He apparently warned them to "back off", but they continued to follow him, asking: "Where are the ladies tonight?"

The situation reached boiling point when one of the snappers suggested to Hugh where he and his group could get a taxi from.

Footage posted on TMZ shows Hugh heading off in the direction given by the photographer, before turning to lash out at him, seemingly kicking him in the groin.

The camera man shouts at Hugh: "That wasn't cool. What's your problem? What the hell is your problem?"

Another can be heard to call out: "That's great, now you've got a lawsuit on you."

This isn't the first time Hugh has been involved in a scuffle with the paparazzi.

In 2007, he was arrested after throwing a can of baked beans over a photographer waiting outside his home.
