It is understood the ex-EastEnders star, 27, failed to pay off a £20,000 tax bill.

London's High Court of Justice made him officially bankrupt yesterday and the Official Receiver is now in charge of his assets.

Joe, who lives in a £400,000 flat in north London, iKara Tointon s starring on Living With My Idol with Pamela Anderson.

He was axed from Eastenders in 2006, but his flagging career seemed to be on the up with his triumph on I'm A Celeb... Get Me Out Of Here.

Last night his agent insisted there was a mix-up over the tax bill, and Joe would be battling to get the ruling annulled: "Joe has not been around to sort this out.

"The bankruptcy should never have gone through. He's not in financial difficulty - he's fine. There was a tax issue which will be resolved imminently. Everyone has to pay tax and Joe knows he is no exception."

The divorced dad of one is dating former EastEnder Kara Tointon, who played his on-screen sister Dawn Swann.
