As if we need more of a reason to adore Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet...

The do-gooders have exceeded themselves this time, by coming to the rescue of the last survivor of the Titanic.

Kate and Leo, who made their names in the 1997 film about the sinking of the liner, were approached by a charity to help 97-year-old Millvina Dean who was struggling to pay her nursing home fees.

And being the kind souls they are, have given cash along with the film's director James Cameron to ease her financial worries.

Millvina has been auctioning personal belongings and memorabilia associated with the disaster to help pay for the £3,000-a-month cost of her care.

But now she can rest easy.

The campaign called the Millvina Fund was launched in Belfast, where the liner was built, and will help secure the future of Miss Dean, who was the Titanic's youngest passenger at only nine weeks old when the liner sank in April 1912.

It is believed that the Titanic trio - Leo, Kate and James - have donated $30,000 (£22,000).

In a joint statement, the stars said: "We are honoured to contribute to the Millvina Fund.

"Our hope is that others will feel inspired by Millvina Dean's remarkable story of survival, and hope she can rest easier in knowing that her future will become more secure through this fund."
