Madonna Madonna Madonna's case for the adoption of Mercy James is being taken over by Malawi's Chief Justice in the supreme court.

But according to reports, her appeal has been dealt a crushing blow.

Mercy's biological father, James Kambewa, said he objects to Madge's adoption bid.

Despite having support from Mercy's grandmother, Lucy Chekichiwa, and her uncle, Peter Baneti, the 24-year-old's objection may now throw a spanner in the works.

In a letter to lawyers, James states: "I have learnt that an American musician called Madonna has applied to a court for the adoption of the kid, to which the grandmother has consented.

"However, I do not consent to the adoption."Madonna Madonna

The Daily Mail reports that the letter continues with comments that Mercy's dad claims that Madonna is not "a model mum" and "doesn't portray good morals."

He has begun a bid to claim full custody.

Madonna's spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg said: "There is no evidence that this man is the father of Mercy.

"Her mother died while giving birth to her, no family member has ever come forward to claim this child and now some man appears claiming to be the father."

Madonna's lawyer added: "He is just an opportunist."

The hearing before a three judge panel, including Chief Justice Lovemore Munlo, was adjorned yesterday to allow Madonna's legal team more time to prepare their case.
