And that's why we love Ellen DeGeneres.

She gave Mariah Carey a right good grilling on her show.

Referring to speculation that Maz is expecting her first baby with hubby Nick Cannon, Ellen boldly declared: "People are saying that you're pregnant."

To which Mariah replied: "No, that's OK."

Err, call us crazy, but that doesn't sound much like a denial...Mariah Carey

Ellen carried on her questioning, and then tried to get Mariah to take a swig of champers, saying: "Let's toast to you not being pregnant."

But Mariah was having none of it, using excuses including:

1. "It's just fattening. That's not champagne. You can't have it on TV."

2. "This is peer pressure."

3. "It's too early for me. I only drink after 3pm."

4. "Why would we toast to that? How about to the future?"

Who thinks the lady doth protest far too much? Well, Ellen for one, who then came right out and said: "You're pregnant."

That seemed to fluster Mariah, who babbled: "I didn't say that. No, no, no. My mother would be at home, like on the computer, like what are you talking about?

"We will let you know when we're going to have a family."

Like, just make sure you do, Mariah.
