Comedian Chevy Chase did one heck of an impression of the late US president Gerald Ford on the US TV show Saturday Night Live...
But the two also shared a more serious link.
Chevy, 63, admitted to seeking drug rehabilitation at the Betty Ford clinic in the 1980s to kick a painkiller addiction.
He said he was inspired to get treatment after learning about the First Lady's own battle with alcoholism:
"If it hadn't been for the courage of Mr Ford's wife, Betty, for admitting to an alcohol problem, I would never have received the help I needed.
"During my short stay there, I often saw Mrs Ford personally surveying the clinic and generously offering a helping hand."
Chevy was hooked on painkilling drugs after being prescribed medication for back pain.
He developed a close bond with the Ford family during his stay at the clinic, which continued after treatment.
