John reckons gun control isn't to blame for the spate of high school shootings in America.
No, the outspoken Scientologist says the tragic murders were down to pill-popping pupils.
John told W magazine: "I still think that if you analyse most of the school shootings, it is not gun control. It is psychotropic drugs at the bottom of it."
The most recent high school massacre at Virginia Tech in April prompted huge criticism of gun laws in the States.
The Hairspray star went on: "I don't want to create controversy. I've an opinion."
