Imagine having to make small talk with a woman who's bedded the same man as you.

Nicole Kidman and Penelope Cruz have little choice in the matter, however.

The two actresses, both exes of Tom Cruise, have been thrown together on the set of the upcoming film, Nine.

A still just released from the movie shows them posing together, alongside a string of other high-profile Hollywood names including Judi Dench, Fergie and Kate Hudson.

Penelope Cruz Though embarrassing at first, we imagine the unique situ of having both dated Tom, must offer some hilarious opportunities for swapping notes between Nic and Penelope.

We'd love to listen in on their backstage goss. But as we're stuck in the Big Smoke we'll have to imagine how the conversation might go:

Pen (awkwardly): Sorry for dating your ex-husband and all...

Nic: Jeez, no worries, hon. Seriously, it's all water under the bridge. I was just glad to be rid of those darn flats I wore the whole time to make him look taller.

Nicole Kidman Pen (gasp): You had that too? God, I thought it was just me who had to ditch the heels. And the crick in my neck I had after kissing him...

Nic: (Knowing laugh) I thought my head would never come up straight again. I always say you have to move mountains and touch wood to make love work, but leaning down the whole time - that was just too much to take.

Pen: Tell me about it. Tom may be able to reach new heights by jumping on the sofa but he'll never be able to look eye-to-eye with the ladies he goes for. Not even in man heels.

(Both women giggle conspiratorially).
