Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt were spotted returning home to LA from their Mexican wedding - without their rings on.

The couple tied the knot in a secret ceremony on the beaches of Cabo San Lucas in full view of MTV cameras.

Speaking about the wedding day, Spencer said: "We had a beautiful ceremony here at One & Only Palmilla officiated by a minister and photographed by the hotel photographer. We've never been happier."

But here comes the juicy part. Apparently the couple aren't officially married. Gasp. Heidi-Montag

Heidi and Spencer failed to obtain the required marriage licence, opting for a "symbolic" wedding rather than anything legally binding.

But Spence claims that they plan to make it official in the US.

"Like other elopements that happen outside the country, we'll take care of the legal details when we get home," he said.

So they're not actually married and they're not wearing rings.

It all sounds a little suspect, if you ask us.
