Jonathan Ross Jonathan Ross He resigned from hosting the bash...

But now suspended BBC presenter Jonathan Ross has been nominated for a British Comedy Award.

Oh, the irony.

Friday Night With Jonathan Ross is up for a best comedy entertainment programme gong at the prestiguous laughter-celebrating cermony.

The nod comes despite the recent scandal caused by Wossy and Russell Brand's lewd - and some would say unfunny - voicemails to Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs, broadcast on Radio 2 - which saw Wossy suspended for three months without pay and Russell quit his job.

Russell himself is also up for a gong at the awards, for best live stand-up performer.

Wossy withdrew from hosting the bash because of the controversy, but it's not yet clear whether he or Russell will now attend the ceremony to see if their nominations follow through.

The British Comedy Awards will be broacast live on ITV on the 6th December.
